Expectations

Attendance/Participation
Attendance is mandatory: Participants who arrive to class 10 minutes or more after class begins will be considered late. Participants who are late 3 times will receive 1 absence. Any participant who misses 1/4 of all class meetings will receive an F. Mastery of the ideas and concepts of this course requires engagement and discussion. If you are not in class, you miss that opportunity to exchange ideas. Moreover, participation is also essential. Just coming to class is not enough. I expect all participants to be active in class discussion and lectures as well as to complete all oral and written assignments.

Belief Statment
Reflect on your experience as both a learner and/or a teacher. Think about each of the 8 questions on the handout. Write at least one well-developed paragraph for each question (4-5 lines or sentences at least). DO NOT USE RESOURCE MATERIALS. I just want you to tell me what you currently believe about each question. This is DUE WEEK 3. (Questions)

Reading Homework
I will also check to make sure you are doing your reading homework. You will have 9 reading assignments and I will ask you to answer questions about 5 of those readings assignments. You will email me your answers and I will give feedback.

Lesson Plan & Micro-Teaching
Create a lesson plan using various methods, techniques and activities that we have studies to create an effective teaching plan. The design goal is to use BEST PRACTICES, so choosing appropriate from the methods we have studied is important. Also use what you have learned creatively and effectively to create fun and effective lesson. You will also need to identify the method that your procedures describe and the principle behind the procedure. You will then teach the lesson plan to a group of your classmates. Use this template.

Reflection on Micro-Teaching
Use the feedback that you received from your peers and from your teacher to reflect on your Micro-Teaching experience. You will need to answer three questions: 1) what are your general feeling about the experience (50 words), 2) what worked well in the lesson, how do you know it worked well, and how did it help your Ss to learn (75+ words), 3) what didn’t work so well in your lesson, how do you know it didn’t work well, and what might you do differently next time (75+ words)

Final Learning Statment
This is a re-write of your Belief Statement. Your job is to evaluate your original answers, think about the feedback I gave and provide better answers and reasons for your beliefs. You will need to turn in the original Belief Statement (with my feedback on it) with the Final Learning Statement; BOTH TOGETHER. This is due week 16.
