The general goal of this course is to provide teachers-in-training with greater insight into the importance of course design within the second language (L2) learning context. While the course will focus on the rationale behind the design, development and selection of materials for ELT courses, it will also help participants understand the vital role that planning and reflective practice plays in the professional development of teachers. Indeed, as opposed to a "how-to" approach, the course aims to help empower participants by exposing them to a case study of course design. It is hoped that through a "discovery" approach, teachers-in-training will gain confidence organizing courses and choosing EFL materials to implement within these courses with greater ease, flexibility and creativity.
The text for the coures is Designing Language Courses: A Guide for Teachers by Kathleen Graves.
